9-Volt is a child who develops games for WarioWare, Inc. and is known for his love of retro Nintendo video games.
Background[edit]
A student at Diamond City's elementary school. Everyday he rides his jet-powered skateboard to school and attends classes, although in general he doesn't put his full effort into classes and is generally considered by his teacher to be a naughty kid. When not at school, his obsession is playing video games. Although he plays all the new games (like Pyoro and 36-Volt Man), his favorite games are mostly of the old school variety from the days of the NES, Game & Watch, and classic Gameboy.
9-Volt was only too happy to become a programmer for WarioWare, given that Wario was one of his video game icons. While most of the other WarioWare developers will focus on microgames built around different methods of using a new gimmick, such as the stylus or Wii Remote, his games tend to simply use the gimmick to control miniature versions of Nintendo games. In WarioWare: Touched! he became good buddies of 18-Volt, who despite being an adult, was in the same elementary class as him. The two are known to spend many nights playing games until the wee hours of the morning, generally to the point of missing school.
In Wario Ware: Smooth Moves, he and 18-Volt are shown in yet another gaming frenzy that ends when 9-Volt is playing a classic Game & Watch game. 18-Volt mistakes it for a Nintendo DS and is promptly corrected. However 9-Volt was unwilling to let 18-Volt play the game and the scuffle inevitably caused the system to break. Enraged by this 9-Volt demands 18-Volt leave, but later on finds 18-Volt at the toystore trying to buy a replacement Game & Watch. The two patch things up and go back to playing games with each other again.
In WarioWare: D.I.Y., he was among the WarioWare employees to defect to working to Diamond Software, possibly in order to obtain actual pay. His stage is presented in the form of a video game called "Super 9-Volt", designed to resemble Super Mario Bros., except that 9-Volt is riding a skateboard. In WarioWare: D.I.Y. Showcase, 9-Volt is the boss of 18-Volt's game, as 18-Volt remained in WarioWare and seemed to end up consideirng 9-Volt as a rival.
He returned to WarioWare by Game & Wario. In this game, he is featured in the minigame called Gamer, where the goal is to help 9-Volt play video games late into the night without being caught by his mother, 5-Volt.
Other Appearances[edit]
Video Games[edit]
- In the Super Smash Bros. series, 9-Volt has been represented as two stickers (from Mega Party Game$! and Touched!) in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, a trophy of him with his mother in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and an Ace Support Spirit of him and 18-Volt in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, as well as a stage based on Gamer that appeared in the Wii U game and Ultimate. In Ultimate, the Support effect of 9-Volt and 18-Volt's Spirit is to grant a player fighter immunity to electrified floors and stun attacks. When fought in a Spirit battle, 9-Volt would possess a Villager while 18-Volt possessed Incenroar. They fought with the aid of a Sheriff Assist Trophy, and Galaga items appeared commonly in the battle.
- In Rhythm Heaven Megamix, 9-Volt makes an appearance piggyback riding on 18-Volt during the "Wario... Where?" challenge set version of the Super Samurai Slice minigame.
