Jasmine is a gym leader appearing in Pokémon Gold, Silver, Pokémon Crystal, HeartGold and SoulSilver Versions. She also appears in Pokémon: Diamond and Pearl Versions. She specializes in Steel-type Pokémon.

Background

Jasmine is the gym leader of the Olivine City gym. She is known for being a very compassionate but also a shy trainer. She originally specialized in Rock-types, but eventually switched to Steel-types after they were discovered.

Generation II

Within Gold, Silver, Crystal, HeartGold and SoulSilver, Jasmine was at first preoccupied by the sickness of the Ampharos that powered Olivine's lighthouse. So she stayed in the top of the lighthouse and cared for the Ampharos. Eventually Gold was able to bring her medicine from Cianwood City, which she used to heal the Ampharos, which would only take medicine from her. She then returned to her gym, where Gold defeated her in battle. She then admitted he was the better trainer in both skill and kindness, giving him both the Mineralbadge and TM23: Iron Tail.

In HeartGold and SoulSilver, she later goes to the Olivine Diner during the afternoons, where Gold could exchange Pokégear numbers with her. Calling her on Wednesday afternoons would cause her to travel to Saffron City's Fighting Dojo for a rematch. She would also appear by Celadon City's fountain on Sunday afternoons, where she talked about Sinnoh's Super Contests with Erika. After being beaten in at least one rematch, she would eventually call Gold on the Pokégear for a trade, offering a Steelix in exchange for any Pokémon.

Generation IV

Jasmine later visited Sunyshore City in Sinnoh in Diamond and Pearl, as it reminded her of her hometown with it's lighthouse. After the player wins the final badge from Volkner, Jasmine congratulates the player by bequeathing HM07: Waterfall, which is needed to access Sinnoh's Pokémon League. Afterwards, Jasmine can be battled as a Coordinator in the Super Contests.

Pokémon Roster

In Gold, Silver and Crystal as well as HeartGold and SoulSilver, she has the following Pokémon:

In Diamond and Pearl she only has her Steelix, which is nicknamed Rusty. In HeartGold and SoulSilver, she uses the following Pokémon in rematches:

Other Games

Jasmine appears in Pokémon Stadium 2 as the sixth opponent in the Gym Leader's Castle. She fights with a Steelix, Corsola, Magneton, Mantine, Skarmory and Forretress in R1, and with Blastoise, Rapidash, Slowbro, Steelix, Stantler and Scizor in R2.

She also appears as the fifth opponent in Pokémon Puzzle Challenge, using a Steelix as her Pokémon.

Other Appearances

  • Jasmine appears in two separate episodes of the Pokémon anime. The first depicts her ordeal with the Ampharos, while the second episode shows her battle with Ash when he returns to Olivine after delivering the medicine. Jasmine is portrayed as more confident and aggressive in the anime.
  • Jasmine appears in several chapters of the Pokémon Adventures manga. She is first shown to be trapped in the Tin Tower with her Ampharos by an earthquake until Gold and Silver arrive to help her, although ultimately her Ampharos carries her off and she is left thinking the two boys might have just been a hallucination she had. During the gym leader's competition, she battles Brock, and disguises her Steelix, due to believing it looked too horrifying, and she defeats him after her Steelix is unveiled and overpowers Brock's Onix.

Trivia

  • Unlike other gym leaders, she has no other trainers present in her gym.
  • Jasmine (or a character closely resembling her) can be seen in the audience during the contests in Pokémon: Ruby and Sapphire Versions. If this is truly Jasmine, then she is the only gym leader to appear in every generation since her introduction.
