18-Volt is a character who appears in the WarioWare games as 9-Volt's best friend.
Background
18-Volt was an unusual fellow who appeared to be an adult and was quite tall, but he still attended elementary school. He attended Diamond City Elementary School, but his love for playing jams from his boombox made him unpopular with the teacher. Although feeling down about his first day at that school, he soon after befriended 9-Volt who invited him over to his place. After a jam session, 18-Volt began to admire 9-Volt's collection - in particular the NES games thanks to his similar interest in old school games.
Since then, the two have constantly played games together until the wee hours of the morning. 18-Volt seemed to only play second fiddle to 9-Volt since he does not seem to be as avid a collector as 9-Volt, nor is his knowledge of Nintendo games on par with his.
18-Volt being less familiar with Nintendo games was demonstrated in Wario Ware: Smooth Moves when the two were on yet another gaming frenzy. While 9-Volt was playing a classic Game & Watch game, 18-Volt mistook it for a Nintendo DS and tried to take it from 9-Volt so that he could play. The scuffle caused the game to break, and an angry 9-Volt told 18-Volt to leave. The depressed 18-Volt eventually found out there was a sale on games at a local toystore and tried to weave through the crowd to get to the game. After finally reaching the checkout area, he found that 9-Volt had already gone there to secure the very same item. The two patched things up and went back to being friends again.
He appeared again in WarioWare: D.I.Y. Showcase, where he was one of the few WarioWare employees remaining after a number of the others left to join Diamond Software. 9-Volt was among the people who left, so 18-Volt came to see him as a rival. His level was presented in the form of a video game called "Jet 18Volt", and he cast 9-Volt as the boss of the game. Despite that, it seemed that 9-Volt rejoined the company, and they made up sometime after the game's events.
In Game & Wario, 18-Volt joined 9-Volt in hosting the Gamer minigame. He had his own mode in the minigame where the player could play through microgames without interruptions.
Other Appearances
Video Games
- In the Super Smash Bros. series, 18-Volt has been represented as a sticker (using art from Touched!) in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and as an Ace Support Spirit with 9-Volt (using art from WarioWare Gold) in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. As a Spirit, their Support effect was to make the player fighter immune to electrified floors and stun attacks. When fought against in a Spirit battle, 18-Volt possessed an Incineroar, while 9-Volt possessed a Villager. The two fought accompanied by a Sheiff Assist Trophy and with many Galaga items appearing.
