Cheryl is a Pokémon trainer appearing in the fourth generation games as a temporary double battle partner.
Background
Cheryl was a polite young trainer whom Lucas/Dawn met in the Eterna Forest. She accompanied them through the forest out f fear of Team Galactic attacks, and she healed the player's Pokémon after each battle in exchange. When they reached the end of the forest, they parted ways, and in Platinum, she thanked the player trainer for helping her by giving them the Soothe Bell.
She would later appear in the Battle Zone, where Lucas/Dawn could choose her as a partner for Double Battles in the Battle Tower. In Platinum, she would also appear at the Battleground cafe on random days following completion of the Stark Mountain sidequest, where she could be challenged to a battle. She was also available as a Battle Tower partner at Johto's Battle Frontier in HeartGold and SoulSilver.

In her sync pair story, she talks about how her Chansey's evolution into Blissey inspired her and helped her to be less hesitant as a trainer. She also appeared as an opponent challenged by Barry at random in the sync pair event about his Piplup's evolution into Prinplup.
