Ravio is a supporting character from The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, who is constantly accompanied by his small flying companion named Sheerow. He hides identity beneath a bunny mask for most of the game, but at the end he is revealed to be Link's Lorule counterpart.

Background

Ravio lived in Lorule, in a house located in the same place as Link's home in Hyrule. His personality was a contrast to Link's in some ways. While Link was known for being a silent protagonist, Ravio was excessively chatty. Link was associated with the virtue of courage, and Ravio considered himself to be a coward at heart. He did obtain a number of different weapons and items similar to those used by Link in his quests, but it is unknown if he actually used them in any capacity. Rather, he was known to rent or sell different items to others, as he loved to make a profit. Ravio also became a servant of Lorule's princess, Hilda. They were both concerned about the chaotic state of the kingdom of Lorule, which seemed to be stuck on the road to ruin.

The time came when a mysterious fissure was discovered in Lorule's Sacred Realm. Through this, another world containing the kingdom of Hyrule was discovered. Hyrule was a kingdom that prospered under the protection of Triforce, in sharp contrast to Lorule, as Lorule's past rulers had deestroyed their Triforce in an attempt to stop people from waging bloody wars over it. Hilda and the sorecerer Yuga plotted together to steal the Triforce away from Hyrule for their own world. Ravio disapproved of this plan and felt that Yuga was manipulating her to his own ends. However, he did not have the courage to stand up to Hilda and felt that his only option was to leave Lorule. He used what little magic he had on a bracelet to pass through the fissure between worlds and came to Hyrule. Although he was retreating from his home, he vowed to save her from all of this and felt that he could find a hero capable of doing so in Hyrule.

In Hyrule, Ravio posed as a traveling merchant and hid his appearance in a violet bunny costume. He rented the Sand Rod out to Osfala and then found Link passed out by the Sanctuary, likely noticing the boy's resemblance to him. Ravio took the boy back to his home and found out that he had been knocked out while trying to save someone from Yuga. Ravio told Link that he was a hero for standing up to the strange man and suggested that he report the incident to Hyrule Castle. He then asked to stay at Link's house for a few days, which Link agreed to. Ravio was grateful and gave Link his bracelet, which would later allow Link to survive being turned into a painting. However, Ravio not only stayed there, but he set up shop there. He presented various items for Link to rent for his adventure, with only the sample renal (the bow) being free. If Link ever fell in battle, then Sheerow would appear to retrieve any rental items he had, and Link would have to pay for them all over again. Later on, Ravio allowed Link to purchase the items permanently, but at high prices. Sheerow was also quick to retrieve the Sand Rod from Osfala the moment that he was freed by Link, at which point that item became available for rental or sale as well. If Link permanently bought all of the items, Ravio proceeded to close down his shop and contemplated what to do next in life, though he also claimed that retirement was his true calling in life.

Ravio had an ulterior motive for his actions, as he wanted to help out a hero who was capable of stopping Yuga and Hilda's plan. Giving Link the bracelet that allowed him to merge with walls and arming him with various items was his way of doing that. Ravio later made his way to Lorule Castle after the final battle was fought, and Yuga Ganon had been destroyed. He revealed his true appearance to Link and Zelda, and he proceeded to confront Hilda. Ravio explained his actions to her and helped her to understand the errors of her ways. He wished for them to find another way to save Lorule. Ravio's words succeeded in swaying Hilda, and so she decided to send Link and Zelda back to Hyrule with the last of the magic left in Ravio's Bracelet, which would also close off the link between the worlds for good. Ravio said his farewell and thanks to Link, and he also told him that some of his courage may have rubbed off on him. He then stood by Hilda's side to face Lorule's future. The two of them were then amazed to see that Zelda and Link had used their Triforce's power to restore Lorule's Triforce, and the sun finally showed itself in Lorule once again.

• Ravio appears in Hyrule Warriors as a playable fighter who was available as DLC for the first two editions and within the game in the Definitiive Edition. He used the Rental Hammer as his main weapon, while other rental items appeared in some of his attacks, most prominently the Ice Rod.
• In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Ravio appears as a Support Spirit, represented by official artwork of him from A Link Between Worlds. The effect of his Spirit is that it allows players to enter battle equipped with a Killing Edge. In Spirit battles, his Spirit possesses Young Link wearing a Bunny Hood.

Trivia

• His name is a combination of "rabbit" and "violet".
• Like Link, Ravio is left-handed.
• When playing in Hero Mode, Ravio's Journal can be found and read at his vacant house in Lorule.
• His rabbit costume is a reference to A Link to the Past, where Link transformed into a pink rabbit when entering the Dark World without a Moon Pearl.
• In Breath of the Wild, Ravio's Hood appears as as a piece of armor that is made available through the second DLC pack. It is described as being one of several priceless relics that the Great Thief Misko stole from Hyrule Castle. It is hidden near the Spring of Courage within the Faron Province, and wearing it will increase Link's sideways climbing speed.
